If you own a washing machine, you might have been caught out by a washing machine that’s sluggish and just isn’t working right. I know there are plenty of ways you can test if it’s something simple like a few fuses or it could be much more serious, for instance it might be an electronic board that’s gone, but either way you need to get someone onto the problem and fix your washing machine quickly.
Here are a few tips of how to get your Winnipeg washing machine repaired.
1. Is the problem with water flow?
If your washing machine is sluggish and not doing a good job of cleaning your clothes, the problem might be with the water flow. You should check the water valves that are supplying water to the washing machine. If you have the correct amount of water coming into your washer, then you should make sure that there is no debris in the drain hose that is attached to the washing machine. Sometimes a clog in the drain hose can cause a lack of water flow.
If you are having problems with water draining properly, you may want to consider calling in a plumber to look at your plumbing system. A clogged sewer line can cause sewage to back up into your home and may cause appliances like your washer to drain slowly. A plumber should be able to remove any type of clog so you will have optimal water flow throughout your home.
2. Clean the filter
One of the most common causes of a sluggish washing machine is a clogged filter. To fix this problem, you’ll need to unplug your machine, turn off the water and remove the front panel of your washer (on most models). Once you’ve done that, locate the filter and clean it out. If your appliance has a pump filter, simply turn it counterclockwise until it unlocks and pull it out. Empty any debris into the trash can and rinse under running water until it’s clear.
If your washing machine doesn’t have a pump filter, you’ll need to find the hole where the hose connects to the drain pump (it’s typically on or near the bottom front of your washer). Insert an Allen wrench in that hole and push down until you hear a click. Then pull out any debris that has built up in the drain pump.

3. Lint is getting caught up in the drain
When you’re doing laundry and your washing machine is sluggish, it’s time to take action. That sluggishness could be a drainage problem.
If your washing machine has a lint filter, there’s a good chance that it’s catching all the lint coming off your clothes. But if it doesn’t, lint can build up in the drain hose or in the trap beneath the washer. The trap is usually accessible by removing a panel in the front of the washer.

4. Call an appliance repair company
In the past few years, I have had to replace two washing machines in our house. Now that we have a new one, I’d like to keep it working for as long as possible. What can I do to extend its life?
One of the most common reasons for washing machine malfunctions is overloading. Even if you’re not overloading it, there are probably too many suds in the water. Overloaded suds will cause the machine to work harder and wear out sooner. You can use less detergent, or add more water to the load. It’s also important to keep your machine clean. Dirt and grime could damage the motor and other parts of the machine. Clean your detergent reservoir and dispenser drawer regularly with a cloth and hot water or a vinegar solution. If your washing machine is sluggish or vibrates loudly, call a Winnipeg appliance repair company right away.
